The Procedure

Before Your RF Microneedling Treatment

To ensure the best results and minimize risk of irritation:

  • Avoid retinols, tretinoin, and other strong exfoliants for at least 1 week prior.

  • Avoid chemical peels, waxing, or aggressive facials for 1–2 weeks prior.

  • Avoid sun exposure or tanning for at least 1 week before treatment; sunburned skin cannot be treated.

  • Avoid blood-thinning medications or supplements (like aspirin, ibuprofen, or high-dose fish oil) unless approved by your healthcare provider.

  • Avoid active acne treatments or harsh skincare products on the area being treated.

Following these precautions helps ensure safety, comfort, and optimal results from your RF Microneedling treatment.

Prior to the Procedure

At your initial appointment, your provider will ask questions about your medical history and expectations. They’ll also take photos of your face to determine the best technique for your condition, as well as provide instructions on how to prepare for the procedure. If you have a history of cold sores, you might need to take oral antiviral medication.

During the Procedure

Your actual procedure will take place in your healthcare provider’s office. Generally, here’s what you can expect:​

  1. A healthcare provider cleans your skin with alcohol to prevent infection.

  2. They apply a topical anesthetic to the treatment area about 30 minutes before the procedure. The anesthetic numbs the area so you won’t feel pain.

  3. The microneedling device makes tiny wounds in the skin. Simultaneously, the tip of the needle releases radiofrequency waves into the wounds.

  4. The procedure takes 30 to 40 minutes. The exact duration depends on what you’re treating.

After the Procedure

You can go home after the treatment and return to your normal activities.
